-AA Big Book, pg 42 (2):
"I have since been brought into a way of living infinitely more satisfying and, I hope, more useful than the life I lived before. My old manner of life was by no means a bad one, but I would not exchange its best moments for the worst I have now. I would not go back to it even if I could."

An Amazing Experience

The AA Youth Conference was called “My Chance to Live” and that was definitely the great inspiration of the weekend for me.

There were so many young people with beautiful, activated minds. There is nothing like a 16 year old that is totally ready to turn his life over to God and shares that experience with others. I felt so blessed to receive it. The sharing at the meetings was so open and direct, with great respect for each other.

The speaker Friday night opened my heart with her recovery. Her bottom was low and she arose out of her addiction so bright and incredibly funny. Her story was full of miracles and the forgiveness was so complete. I loved it. It definitely strengthened me in working my program.

Another highlight in the weekend was the 12 step table meetings on Saturday. I could join in with any of the six 12 Step tables, share my experience with those steps and ask questions. It was super helpful to hear what every step had to offer me. So much more than I knew! I felt inspired to live the steps more as they became more practical.

Another great asset was the 10-minute speaker who spoke before the main speaker. Those people were mostly very new in the program. Their sharing was so innocent and pure. And it showed me the humble side of the program. I am a success because I am a failure. God took over and gave me His strength.

There were hourly meetings all through the night. I attended a mid-night meeting set up as a fireball meeting. It was great to hear so many topics because everyone could ask the next person that shares to talk about whatever they wanted to hear. For example people were asked to share on acceptance, sponsorship, relationship with a Higher Power, service, etc. It was always a surprise what would be the subject and it felt exciting and fresh.

On Saturday night there was a dance, happy, light and fun. There was no competition, instead lots of love, crazy dancing and the willingness to have a good time for no reason at all.

The conference ended with a Sunday morning speaker. He used to be a real rebel and it was incredible to listen to his recovery with the help of the tools of the program and his humble connection with his Higher Power.

To be a part of this amazing program filled me with gratitude.

Love, Mariella
