If we are going to start this New Year off right, we might as well look at the idea of time and starting out brand new. Each year many of us have stated that we are going to stop this addiction or that when the New Year comes, while we continue to play out our addiction in that moment. We're always planning a different future.
Well the New Year has arrived and that doesn't mean anything if I'm not willing to turn my will and life over to the care of God in this moment. This is it, this is the last new year, this is your last day, your last moment. How do you want to spend it? Either planning for the next moment that is never coming, or taking this one that is here now?In this moment we have a choice (seemingly) to choose a way that causes us pain, or one that leads us out of it. We can choose a path that has already been laid out for us by our Higher Power, or continue on with our own "bright" ideas, aka solving past problems in the future. The Workbook of A Course in Miracles starts with lessons that help to slowly ease us out of our dependence, reliance and valuation of what we think and see. The 12 steps start out by saying that whatever you're thinking and seeing is completely unmanageable. Both make their way to dependence on God as an alternative, as well as looking straight at what we think so we can see how these thoughts are hurting us. And finally (ultimately) to an experience of a whole thought, a miracle, revelation and resurrection. But the only time we can do this is now. The only time I can practice my lesson is now and the only time I can work my Steps is now. The Course states, "Make this year different by making it all the same." (Chapter 15) Let us now make this year different by stepping out of future possibilities and turning everything over to our Higher Power, aka God. Only in this way can we experience what the words "happy" and "new" really mean. You are invited to step into this new possibility that is always right here and right now and collapse all of your time and space to this single moment. So take it because it's the only thing you actually really have. So have fun and have a Happy New Holy Instant! |
