Miracles are a central part of Jesus' message to you. Healing is their
effect, not their meaning. They have a vital mission in this world
regarding your recognition of your true self, which is to say they
contain the hope you have of being happy. So, what are miracles, and
are they a legitimate means for a spiritual awakening?
The concepts of a spiritually awakened mind such a Buddha, Jesus or Ramana Maharshi are now widely known. They speak of life on earth being an illusion and God or Truth does not lie in illusions. But they go beyond that. Illusions are not neutral. They have a particular emotional content: suffering. And there is a further step to their teachings. "Be of good cheer for I have overcome the world", Jesus says. The question remains, how do I reach this experiential state? Buddha offered us the time honored methods of meditation. Ramana Maharshi directed us to focus on the question, "Who am I?' Jesus was less abstract and in this sense more helpful to the western mind. He directed us to use the miracle. This particular approach of awakening through healing can be gleaned from the Bible as evidenced by Mary Baker Eddy. However, for most of us a clearer presentation of what miracles mean can be found in Jesus' modern message, A Course in Miracles. The miracle is an instantaneous experience of the unreality and chaotic nature of time and space and every physical law of this world. And the effects of the miracle (healing) reveal the power and freedom of mind in union with the loving Voice for God. Looked at this way the miracle would not have to occur too many times for the mind to happily turn over all "self" control to letting God be your complete guide and safety. And that is exactly the point. It is an instantaneous step beyond fear. The miracle has the identical purpose of a Buddha or Ramana Maharshi, yet it simply aims at saving time. God
is love. That is the true foundation and goal of the miracle. The
phenomenological aspects of the miracle, mean less and less with each
miracle, since their purpose is to show that phenomena is illusion as
it can change. The amazing thing is that the plan of miracles is
perfectly fitted to your evolutionary condition. If you need the
miracle to work as a process of awakening, so it can be. But one
miracle reveals the totality of the unreality of this world and its
laws, and contains the absolute assurance of God's laws and reality.
The holy instant of the miracle not only heals your mind and restores
the recognition of its power, but transforms the world you see totally.
In that instant time and space are seen in a radically different
perspective. So each miracle offers the mind its completion or escape
from a reality of separation.
You may yet think, "This is all good stuff, but to me miracles remain a distant, pie in the sky possibility. I have another life to live." Yet miracles remain available to those interested in awakening from the dream in this life time. What would you have to lose from exploring this healing possibility. For those who are naturally ready through the recognition of the suffering and pain of an illusory world, miracles are gifts from Heaven. More particularly, the wonder of miracles, as messages from God, is that they have the first purpose of healing those who give them. It takes this personal healing experience to realize that miracles are habits everyone will soon practice. The unification of purpose, then is the Holy Spirit's only way of healing. This is because it is the only level at which healing means anything. The re-establishing of meaning in a chaotic thought system is the way to heal it. ACIM, CH 8 So what is next? For many of us who now work the miracle, mind training was necessary. This re-orientation to a true purpose can be found in A Course in Miracles. Joining your brother in the miracle creates the conditions for this awakening to your reality as a creation of God. You are ready for this discovery, for the Kingdom of Heaven lies within you now. You are pure spirit and God's gifts to you are freely available; happiness, love, and peace. Heaven is not far away, it is as close as your brother's hand.
