You must change your mind, not your behavior, and this is a matter of willingness. You do not need guidance except at the mind level. Correction belongs only at the level where change is possible. Change does not mean anything at the symptom level, where it cannot work.
Underlying this whole shift in our attitude was increasing reliance on the God of our understanding. Indeed, it seemed that we were being given still another invitation to deepen our partnership with God.
If we still cling to something we will not let go, we ask God to help us be willing.
Working these steps gave me, as a result, an immediate release from the obsession in my addiction, and finally I found myself on my knees and humbly asked Him to help me. I was willing to be undone, entirely.
