| “Many of us had moral and philosophical convictions galore, but we could not live up to them even though we would have liked to. Neither could we reduce our self-centeredness much by wishing or trying on our own power. We had to have God's help.” |
Step Ten: Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

The Holy Spirit can indeed make use of memory, for God Himself is there. Yet this is not a memory of past events, but only of a present state.
Little by little, those small hurts, half-truths, and “justified” grudges turn into deep disappointments, serious self-deceptions, and full-blown resentments. We can't allow these threats to compromise our recovery. We have to deal with situations such as these as soon as they arise.
Much has already been said about receiving strength, inspiration, and direction from Him who has all knowledge and power. If we have carefully followed directions, we have begun to sense the flow of His Spirit into us. To some extent we have become God-conscious. We have begun to develop this vital sixth sense.
An honest inventory is a consistent one. Consistently looking at where you find yourself and asking for what you really want in all situations. You are not asked to judge your inventory and then make assumptions of who you must be and what you must do. The whole purpose of an inventory is to admit you are wrong, about everything!
